Passengers injured in bus crash

According to witness reports, several people on board a Grand Cayman passenger bus were injured Tuesday afternoon following a collision in the Bodden Town area.

The crash happened after 3pm on Shamrock Road near the junction of Northward Road, witnesses said.

A jitney bus, the number five route to East End and North Side, was involved in the crash along with a silver-coloured BMW

Nine patients – all from on board the bus, including the driver – were transported to the Cayman Islands hospital, according to medical personnel. None were believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries. Some of the patients had to be placed on stretchers while others were described as ‘walking wounded’.

Witnesses said they saw some bus passengers with bandages wrapped around their heads. At least two ambulances and two fire trucks were on scene to assist the patients.

It was not immediately clear how the wreck happened. The jitney bus ended up off the road and crashed into a tree. The BMW sustained damage to its left front quarter panel. There BMW’s driver was not hurt.
