Two fast food joints held up

Authorities in Grand Cayman are investigating a robbery and an attempted robbery at separate fast food locations within moments of one another Wednesday night in George Town.

At about 8.50pm, a masked man entered the Kentucky Fried Chicken located at 14 Shedden Rd., armed with what appeared to be a handgun and demanded cash, according to a news release issued Thursday by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service. The robber took a small sum of money and fled the scene on foot.

Shortly thereafter, two men entered the Burger King on Walkers Road at about 9.05pm and demanded money. One of the men had what appeared to be a firearm, police said. Staff members with access to the cash register had locked themselves into a rear room. As a result, the culprits left empty handed.

They were seen to get into a grey/silver Honda, possibly a Civic with tinted windows. The vehicle made off down Walkers Road in the general direction of South Sound.
No shots were fired at either location and no injuries were reported, police said.

Authorities did not state whether the incidents were related.

The suspect in the KFC robbery is described as being of slim build, about 5 feet 8 inches, wearing dark clothing with a ski type mask. He had a dark complexion and spoke with a Caymanian accent.

Police did not issue a description of the suspects in the attempted robbery at Burger King, who were both said to be wearing dark clothing and ski type masks.
Anyone who was in the vicinity of either locations just before, during or after the incidents is asked to contact the George Town police station Criminal Investigation Department at 949-4222.
