Santi tees up pros

Former pro golfer Marcello Santi has organised another Golf Invitational at the North Sound Club next month.

Santi who is a Professional Golf Association European tour member since 1992 and still has ties with the PGA community, has been a Cayman Islands resident for the last 18 years.

The tournament is in it’s third year and was conceived to bring more awareness to Cayman as a golf destination.

Santi also wanted the local golfing community to experience a higher level of golf. The sponsor team members not only get to play along side professional golfers but they can also take advantage of a session with the David Leadbetter Golf Academy where they can pick up pointers to improve their game from Sean Hogan who is a Master Certified Golf Instructor.

The confirmed pros who will be here from 5 December are Peter Hanson, Skip Kendall, Brian Davis, Rich Beem, Joakim Haegman, Thomas Levet, Richard Johnson, Steve Flesch and Greg Owen.

The main sponsors this year are the Department of Tourism, Cayman Airways, Camana Bay, Deloitte, Queensgate, Ogier, Crighton Properties, Red Sail, NCB and Maples.

Each sponsor gets a three-man team spot in the tournament, who will play with a different golf professional each day of the tournament. There is a random draw to see who each of the teams will be paired up with for the tournament.

The winning team members will receive three tickets to the Masters 2013 and the winning pro will receive a watch as the prize so there is a competition on two levels.

The pro is doing his best to help his sponsor team each day while playing against his fellow professional golfers.

Peter Hanson who recently won the BMW Masters in Shanghai and was also a close contender in this year’s Masters tournament was the pro winner last year and will be here again.
