Cost-U-Less donated sweetly

There were plenty of corporate teams in the Cayman Islands Intertrust Marathon last week and one of the best represented must have Cost-U-Less.

There was 63 staff members from Cost-U-Less and the North West Company spanning Northern Canada, Alaska, Washington State and the Cayman Islands and they all ran in support of the Cayman Islands Diabetes Association.

In the marathon, over 100 brave souls did the full 26.2 mile distance, some did the half marathon but most were in the four-person team relay.

“We were very pleased have employees from each of our banners – Cost-U-Less, Northern, NorthMart, AC Value Center, Giant Tiger and our three support offices participating in this exciting marathon,” said Edward Kennedy, president and CEO, The North West Company.

“Participation on our annual marathon team continues to grow and this year I am proud to say that 42 new runners signed up.”

In addition to being part of the Cayman Islands Marathon, Cost-U-Less Grand Cayman and Team North West donated $15,000 for the Diabetic Association.

Until the end of the year Cost-U-Less customers can purchase a Gift of Hope decal for $2, single or $10, family pack, with all proceeds going to the CIDA. The decals are then placed on display throughout the store to celebrate customer’s support.

“It’s awesome to be part of such a major fundraising event and even more special knowing the funds are going towards helping those living with diabetes in the Cayman Islands,” said Guy Strickland, Cost-U-Less store manager. Cost-U-Less also had a water station on South Sound.

Gino Rivers was one of the Cost-U-Less team. He said: “This marathon was a great experience for me. It is my first time doing a marathon and I would say I have done pretty well. I am proud of myself and hopefully do a next one with my team soon.”
