Carole Baker, a United Kingdom-based artist, well known for her colourful, atmospheric paintings, will be sharing some of her tricks of the trade with painters in Cayman next month.
Carole regularly leads workshops and runs painting holidays from the UK and in early 2013 she’ll be coming to Cayman and will be running painting workshops for artists of all levels, through the Visual Arts Society.
Carole has been featured in International Artist magazine and will also soon appear in Master Painters of the World magazine. Her paintings are typically moody, impressionistic depictions of landscapes, using acrylics, watercolours and mixed media.
For the week of 14 to 21 January, Carole will be inviting artists in Cayman to join her in sketching and painting the landscapes and seascapes of the island.
Titled “Painting loose in acrylics” the workshop will encourage artists to relax, let go of inhibitions and have some fun with their paints.
“We will use acrylics very wet, flooding the canvas with colour, moving it around and letting the paint run, drip, drop an splat, glazing with thin, transparent washes,” she says. “Ideal if you want to loosen up and be more expressive!”
The workshops suit complete novices and exhibiting artists alike and will take participants outdoors to paint “en plein air” each day. The course will cover painting from a sketchbook, working with a limited palette, thumbnail sketches, and paper form.
Weekday workshops run on Monday 14, Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 of January, 10am to 3pm.
Weekend workshops run on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 of January, from 10am to 4pm.
Register before 31 December and take advantage of a discount on the workshop cost.
