Taste of Cayman celebrating 25 years

Taste of Cayman, the Cayman Islands Tourism Association’s main annual fundraiser, takes place Saturday, 26 January, at Camana Bay’s Festival Green in Grand Cayman.

The event, which begins at 5pm, features more than 40 booths of food and drink supplied by Cayman’s restaurants and drink outlets and producers. No wonder the tourism association proudly notes that if you love food and drink, this is the place for you.

Tickets cost $35 in advance for adults and $15 for children ages 5 to 12 years old. Children younger than 5 get in free.

For the cost of a ticket, you get entry into the festival as well as 14 food tickets, which can be exchanged for sample portions of food at the booths. As ever, each dish costs anything from one to four tickets, depending on the ingredients of the dish and portion sizes. More tickets are available inside. Drinks tickets are sold separately.

So what do you get for your hard earned, aside from the chance to scoff some of the best eats on the planet?

Well, there are several themed areas that are sure to delight the family.

For the adults, there’s the Hog Sty Bay Bar sponsored by Caybrew, Seven Fathoms and Premier Wines & Spirits. The tourism association’s Erin Bodden says that this is a themed bar.

“We are taking you back in time to Cayman’s Hog Sty Bay circa 1920,” she says. “Locally distilled Seven Fathoms Rum company will be mixing up some fabulous cocktails, local brewery Caybrew will have their latest brews available to taste and Premier Wines & Spirits will be satisfying your palate with a variety of wines. Rum barrels, rope and shipyard decor will have you shouting ARRR! like a pirate in no time.”

There’s also the classy matter of the Grey Goose Luxe Lounge, sponsored by Cayman Distributors group. Here, bartenders will mix up cocktails and there will be a live DJ all evening. Grey Goose brand master Jason Druckenmiller will be on hand to showcase his skills and answer questions about the superior vodka.

The event takes place from 5 to 11.45pm on Saturday, 26 January, at The Festival Green at Camana Bay. Tickets are available at the CITA visitors centre, Books & Books, Camana Bay and online at www.tasteofcayman.org.
