The DMS organisation is calling for applicants for the 2013 Joanna Clarke Excellence in Education Award and the Joanna Clarke Scholarship Fund.
Applications will be accepted until 15 February.
Through the Joanna Clarke Award, DMS awards education initiatives with as much as $12,000. Through the scholarship fund, a minimum of $1,000 is donated by the organisation each year.
With this year marking the seventh year of the programme, the local education community is becoming increasingly familiar with the requirements and fundamental ethos behind the awards. DMS introduced the award in 2007 to honour Ms Clarke and publicly acknowledge the efforts of all individuals and organisations that contribute to education in the Cayman Islands.
Application are being circulated throughout the Cayman Islands’ schools as well as at nonprofit organisations and are available at the award website www.joannaclarkeaward.ky. Parties eligible for consideration include, but are not limited to, teachers, students, parent teacher associations, nonprofit organisations, government departments and schools.
The JCA committee will carefully review all applications submitted and if several worthy projects are identified, they may provide grants to multiple organisations with as much as $12,000 in total.
“It is of paramount importance to us to visit the recipients and follow up their progress of initiatives,” Ms Clarke said. “My favourite part of this whole process is interacting with the children and learning how they are benefiting. After all, it is about the children. We are always greeted with such warm reception and to date it has been indescribably rewarding to see how well maintained the initiatives we have selected.”
