The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman tennis league is in full swing and the organisation has brought on board a special sponsor.
“We are very proud to have Magnum Jewellers as the official sponsor of the Corporate Team Tennis League this spring season,” said Thomas Neuert, director of tennis.
With 16 teams in total, eight A-League and eight B-League, and 181 players signed up, it is the largest turnout of any Corporate Team Tennis League to date.
“With this being only the third season of play the turnout has been absolutely amazing,” Neuert said. “For the first time this season we have separated teams depending on their level of play, thus we now have an A-League for the stronger and more competitive teams as well as a B-League for the weaker and more social teams.
“An addition this season is we are offering training camps for any teams that are signed up in the league,” he added. “This training camp is a two-hour tennis session where lots of drills and games will be played as well as technical and tactical doubles strategy will be discussed.
“This is also a great team-building event, which is a lot of fun and, of course, benefits each team’s level of play to get them ready for their next Corporate Team Tennis League match. So far, we’ve had five teams participate in the Tennis Training Camp and hope to see a few more before this season is over.”
After playing for four weeks, newcomers DMS are in first place in the A-League after beating the defending champions of last season Team KPMG, 3-0, in their opening match.
In the B-League, Team HSBC are also undefeated in two match ups and in first place.
Matches are played every Tuesday and Thursday at 8.15pm and 9.30pm and are open to the public for free viewing, with the exception of this Saturday, 16 March, where all eight B-League teams will be in action from 1 to 7pm.
The Magnum Jewellers Cup A-League and B-League Spring Season Finals will be played on 14 May and 16 May, respectively.
