Kent McTaggart hopes for Bodden Town

A local businessman, devoted husband and father of two, independent candidate Kent McTaggart has declared his candidacy for Bodden Town.

Hoping to win one of the four seats available, Mr. McTaggart states: “My dream for our country is a Cayman defined by trust, honesty, responsibility and respect. With this comes prosperity and peace, and that is why I now seek your support to become a representative of Bodden Town.”

Should Mr. McTaggart be elected, his first tasks will be to identify the true fiscal position of the country, re-establish trust in the government and create a positive movement in the quality of life of all Caymanians.

“Cayman is our home and I am passionate about building a bright future for our children. It is time for me to step forward and defend the values of Caymanians,” Mr. McTaggart said.

Having built a successful 20-year career in construction, Kent is refocusing his experience in managing diverse, complex projects to the cause of serving Cayman and its people.

“Running major construction projects – that include the management of budgets, labour pools, procurement processes and client relationships – has taught me to always look for better, more efficient ways to get things done,” he said. “I’ll bring that experience with me to the Legislative Assembly.”

Managing large teams has also taught Mr. McTaggart how to unify and coordinate the efforts of diverse personalities toward a common goal and he believes this is what the country needs to pull together and put Cayman first.

“Teams perform best when they work together,” Kent said. “The best decisions for Cayman will come from lively, honest, respectful discussion that is centred on a common goal – to do what’s best for Cayman.”

Mr. McTaggart’s family dates back to Malcolm McTaggart – who arrived in Cayman from Jamaica in the 1860s – and continues into the 1700s through his lineage with family names such as Bodden, Eden, Thompson and Rivers. These roots have served as a major inspiration, he said. “I am immensely grateful and proud of the many generations of Caymanians who have worked hard to give us these islands we call home. It is because of them that I promise to do what is best for our country.”

Raised with his two brothers in Spotts Newlands, Kent attended both public and private school in Cayman and abroad. As a young man learning at his father’s side, Kent excelled in the construction trades, rising from a helper to lead carpenter, then foreman and subsequently to supervisory positions.

In 1998, with the help of his father and the blessing of his church, and led by the late Pastor Al Ebanks, Kent went on to build the Agape Family Worship Centre.

“Working alongside my father and Pastor Al, I was taught the importance of integrity, honesty, accountability, compassion and hard work,” he said. “I learned that, to lead requires a great level of trust. It is a privilege that comes with great responsibility.

“Our actions today will affect our tomorrow and that is why it’s time for us all to take pride, be responsible and provide our future generations with the opportunities they deserve.”

Kent is married to his wife of 13 years and has two children.

  1. Well, should we say the line is stretching in the district of Bodden Town.
Knowing Kent McTaggart, he may do well for that distrct; however I will want to ask two quesions of Kent.

you said in your post that TEAMS PERFORM BETTER WHEN THEY WORK TOGETHER correct. So then should persons from Bodden Town district be expecting you to be part of a team and not an independent.

Are you part of a SECRET SOCIETY

  2. I think there is a significant difference between being part of a Team or a member of a Party! All Caymanians should team up and fix the problems created over the past few years. Being part of a Party is not the same as being part of a team ! I support Kent McTaggart and I feel I understand his comment!

  3. Having only briefly met this young man some time ago I can say my impression was not exactly positive. Not sure he would work with others who are not part of his party, even if he says he’s independent. Please tell us who you had been supporting in the past Kent.

  4. @ tintin I am truly sorry if your interaction with me left a negative impression, I would love to know what the circumstances were.
I am not a part of any party.
I will work with whomever necessary to do what is best for the country, as long as I don’t have to lower my ethics or principals, regardless of party affiliation.
I will add that there are persons that are offering themselves up for election that I would prefer to work with, but if my Perfect World doesn’t happen after the ballots are counted, so be it, we have a country to turn around regardless of personalities.
I have been supporting my family. I have never supported a party. I have always voted for the best of what was offered from my perspective.
    I hope that helps.

  5. @ Hunter,
My reference to the team is a broad statement, that is mainly focused on those who get elected in May, but also inclusive of every person that lives in our Country, as the team we elect as our government needs to function as a cohesive unit with the best interests of the country an heart, utilizing the checks and balances available to produce the best results for our people. We also need the team of residents (Caymanian/expat) to once again trust and hold accountable a properly functioning government. If you live in Cayman, you are part of Team Cayman, We need to unify.

If I’m a member of a secret society, it is also a secret to me. Although I’m sure that will be the next thing on the marl road, I will state I am NOT member of any secret or other society

Thanks for the opportunity to clarify.

  6. I support Mr. Kent Mc Taggart and i believe if elected he will make a positive change in our community of Bodden Town,to see him on the front page of the paper this morning hopes for Bodden Town make my day, keep up the good work brother God bless you.

  7. Ken I understand what you are saying to the people of Bodden Town about you are not part of a party, but as always that has been scary for those people up there. They now have three representatives since the last four years and they ARE NOT WORKING TOGETHER. Every where I go I only see Mark Scotland and Dwain Seymour working bu Mr Anthony Eden looks like he is sulking all the time and behaving as if he could not care less.
What you do not understand is that the country watch Politicians now a days. They do not tell the truth. So I am wondering why the people of Bodden Town should believe you. I tis all political propaganda.
