Get your glad rags ready, Cayman Islands Fashion Week is coming

Models, television stars, designers and fashionistas are set to converge in Cayman on Thursday, 25 April for a four-day, fun-filled luxury fashion event.

Cayman Islands Fashion Week brings together an array of world recognised talent and cutting edge international designers over a series of fashionable, chic events.

The fashion week is being hosted by actress and TV host Eva Marcille. Eva shot to fame as the winner of the popular reality TV show “America’s Next Top Model” in 2004. The programme pits young hopefuls against each other in a series of fashion photo shoots and catwalk shows.

Eva hosts US TV station Oxygen’s Hair Battle Spectacular and plays Tyra Hamilton in soap opera The Young & The Restless. Her modelling credits include global mega brands such as Cover Girl, DKNY and Samsung to name just a few. Hosting alongside Eva is co-host Janelle Muttoo. Janelle is a local TV personality and can be seen every morning hosting Daybreak on local station Cayman 27. She was also the Miss Cayman Islands runner-up in 2011.

This year’s fashion week features 12 cutting-edge designers from London, New York, Africa, Dubai, and Cayman, including Nadine Merabi, Gabz n Gabz, Lady Lux Swimwear, Indashio and Andrew Harris.

Fashionable events

The fun kicks-off on Thursday night with the Culture & Style Welcome Party, an opportunity for guests to mingle with designers, models and celebrity guests. According to organisers, the event will focus closely on Cayman culture, featuring Cayman-style food and local entertainment. As of press time the venue was still to be confirmed.

The “My Style” Soiree will be held on Friday at the newly opened West Indies Wine Company, Camana Bay, from 8pm. The event is described as a “high fashion” party and guests are being encouraged to “bring their fashion ‘A game’”. The event will include wine and rum tastings, cigar lounge, canapés and sweet stations and music by DJ Atomskillz. Tickets are priced at $45.

Glamour, glitz, fashion and fun will be on the agenda on Saturday evening with the Runway Fashion Show, this year scheduled to be held at the Island Air Hangar, from 7pm. The fashion show will feature a cast of multicultural international models from top agencies in New York and across the Caribbean, including Jaslene Gonzalez and Grace Bol. Entertainment will be provided by Grammy Award winning R&B songstress Chrisette Michele. Early bird tickets start at $45.

Fashion history

Cayman Islands Fashion Week first launched in 2010 as Cayman Fashion Solstice, and has since served as a platform for showcasing international and Caribbean trend setting fashion designers and models. Sessilee Lopez, Georgie Badiel, Kacie Schaffer and Bobby Roache are amongst the diverse selection of top models that have strutted the runways here in Cayman, with the inaugural event being hosted by internationally renowned Caymanian supermodel and former Victoria Secret’s Angel, Selita Ebanks.

Cindy Rosan-Jones of Guavaberry Marketing said that the event was created with the purpose of promoting the Cayman Islands as a fashion and lifestyle destination.

“Cayman Islands Fashion Week has attracted celebrities, designers, models, international media, industry executives, buyers and also a diverse audience of affluent professionals and influencers from around the globe,” Cindy said. “The event is growing at rapid speed both locally and internationally and is commanding regional attention in its quest for dominating trend setting fashion and positioning the Cayman Islands as the top cosmopolitan destination in the Caribbean.

“After the success of our two previous events under the umbrella of Cayman Fashion Solstice and in an effort to continue to engage our international market and grow on a global scale, we have revamped the Cayman Fashion Solstice brand that is now known as Cayman Islands Fashion Week. The feedback of this re-brand has been positively overwhelming and we are delighted to continue the success of our event under the new and improved Cayman Islands Fashion Week brand.”

Early bird tickets can be purchased at NKY Collections, Sand Angels, Silhouette in Camana Bay and Arabus Boutique in George Town. For further information contact 923-1771.
