Conyers stay top

Conyers overcame a strong Appleby in Pony League action to maintain their undefeated record with a 9-8 win in Little League baseball.

Clutch and consistent batting by Seane Curry with three singles and Iain Hemmings with two singles paved the way for Luke Atkinson’s home run and two singles at the plate for Conyers.

Strong infield fielding by Andrea Tognazzo and key defence in the outfield from Lindsay Bodden allowed Conyers to limit Appleby’s smooth swinging offence last Saturday. Appleby put up a great fight and were leading going into the final innings, but Conyers’ batters took over and rallied for the win in the final inning.

Coldwell Banker had their best game of the season in an 11-6 victory over Kirk Freeport. The game was tight at 5-4 after the first inning, but Coldwell’s defence over the final innings helped secure the victory.

Leading the way offensively for Coldwell was Dylan Novak, who went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and Immanuel Duran, who went 2-for-3 with another two runs scored. Vashti Ebanks scored the second of her two runs in dramatic fashion by winning a foot race to home plate with Brandon Jackson in hot pursuit the entire distance.

An outstanding defensive team effort was led by Jadon Jimenez, who recorded all three outs in the second inning and Luke Novak, who made several great plays including a game-ending tag at second base. Madison Chin also received recognition for her outstanding defensive skills.

Brandon Jackson was Kirk’s key defensive player, stopping three of the Coldwell players from making their runs in the first inning. The combined efforts of Charlie Gilman on first and Jayquon Pinet as pitcher were also quite notable – they managed to make several outs on first and had several close calls.

Diquon Messam and Edmund Piletta were big hitters and kept the spirit of their teammates high. Diquon hit a hard grounder and hustled to second base and managed to put Jaziah Johnson from first to third base. Edmund managed to get to third on a solid hit, bringing in two runs.

In the third game, HSBC defeated Team Logic, 13-6.

Coldwell and Kirk Freeport are looking forward to this upcoming Saturday, when they will go head to head.
