Cayman netball is about to hit its climax.
The Cayman Islands Netball Association will be staging the finals for its 2013 Open League on Saturday, 11 May. Camana Bay’s Arts and Recreation Centre will host the action.
At 6.30pm, the Plate division finale pits Rising Stars B against Cayman National Bank All Stars B. The national championship game is slated to start at 8pm. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for kids under age 12.
All Stars head into Saturday’s contest riding high as regular season champs behind offensive duo Karen-Smith James and Terry-Ann Hunter. In the semis, they crushed the Jets, 54-27.
Rising Stars earned their finals berth with a thrilling 28-27 victory over Supa Storm. Guiding the Stars to victory were Goal Shooter Aaliyah Webb and Goal Attack Alexis Carias. Storm, sponsored by Lone Star, featured scorer Olivia Samuels.
At press time, the participants in the national title game were not clear. Heading into the playoffs, focus was on regular season winners and reigning champs All Stars A, who featured the likes of Carolyn Vivian on offence. Storm Radarz were a contending side behind shooter Lavern Ebanks and Rising Stars A sported a formidable offence behind prodigy Rosemarie Wilson.
