Over the past several weeks I have listened attentively to the many Radio Cayman broadcasts by aspiring political candidates. The importance and urgency of providing employment for the many unemployed has been at, or very near, the top of almost every candidate’s list of issues that urgently needs addressing.
I could not fail to notice however that only two, or perhaps three, of these candidates had the courage to use the “W” word.
These two or three actually suggested providing “work” instead of “jobs.” It made me wonder if this, perhaps subtle but none-the-less vitally important, difference might not go far to explain our present unemployment situation.
