Foster’s recalls Vienna sausages

A thin layer of chicken fat just under the lid of some Libby’s Chicken Vienna Sausage has caused Foster’s Food Fair IGA to recall the product.

The supermarket issued the voluntary product recall for the 4.6 oz. cans of the sausages. The recall notice listed two best by dates: 18 September, 2015, and 25 September, 2015, with the following UPC code: 03900008669.

ConAgra Foods, the maker of this product, has determined that there is no food safety risk involving the product we have recalled. They have determined that a very limited number of cans (200 cases) may contain a thin layer of chicken fat just under the lid of the can. Other canned products containing meat, such as chili and soup, experience similar appearance issues. Although this can be unsightly to some people, it is not a food safety issue and the product is safe to eat.
