Pascal seeks gold

The Cayman Islands Athletic Association has taken a team of athletes and officials to compete at the Central American and Caribbean Senior Championships in Mexico this weekend.

Competition starts on Friday and winds up on Sunday. The athletes in Morella are 1,500-metres runner Jon Rankin, 100m specialist Kemar Hyman, long jumper Carl Morgan, sprinters David Hamil, Rhymeich Adolphus, Tyrell Cuffy and javelin ace Alexander Pascal.

Teenager Pascal is not 19 until October yet he is already throwing far enough to challenge world-class men and along with Hyman looks likeliest to reach the podium.

He broke his own Cayman Islands record last week, but it could not be ratified.

Before the party left on Wednesday, Pascal said he felt 100 per cent certain that he could medal at these championships and possibly get gold.

The team manager is Michael Nalty and coach is Kenrick Williams.
