Helen Harquail passes away

Helen Harquail, widow of the man for whom the F.J. Harquail Theatre is named, died at her home on Monday, 12 August, a family representative has confirmed.

Mrs. Harquail’s gifts made the building of the theatre possible and in 1987 she was made an officer in the Order of the British Empire, acknowledging her services to cultural development. In 2012, she was guest of hour at the ceremonial opening of the National Gallery, having donated the land on which the facility was built.

Mrs. Harquail, a Canadian national, had resided in the Cayman Islands since 1973
