Trial set in driving death charge

Collision occurred on Esterley Tibbetts Highway

Fitzroy Roache pleaded not guilty to two charges relating to a traffic fatality and his trial was set for 3 March 2014.

The charges arose from a collision that occurred on 16 October 2012 along Esterley Tibbetts Highway, resulting in the death of Beverley Ramsay.

The defendant is charged with causing her death by careless driving. The second charge alleges that he drove a Nissan UD box truck without being qualified to drive such a vehicle.

Defense attorney Dennis Brady told Justice Malcolm Swift that CCTV footage of the incident was not available because it had been recorded over.

The judge on Friday set the trial date along with a directions hearing on 28 January.
