Wesleyan Christian Academy are the latest champions in local basketball.
The Cayman Islands Basketball Association congratulates Wesleyan on winning the 2013 PwC Under-16 Basketball League. The West Bay team won the boys league ahead of four other clubs: Wolves, Esso Blazers, Kings and Bodden Town.
A pair of veteran youth talents starred for Wesleyan this season in Albis Amaya and Juawon Ebanks. Amaya was the leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 16.2 points and 15.8 rebounds per contest. Ebanks was the top passer, averaging four assists per game.
A girls league was also held and featured four teams in the Lynx, Sparks, Monarch and Comets. Chloe Powery of the Comets was the top scorer (27.7 ppg) and April Ebanks of the Sparks was the top rebounder (22.3 rpg).
The association’s next youth competition is the Under-19 League, slated to start Saturday, Sept. 21.
