Corbin set for hat trick again

The Fidelity Fun Run series had the second of three races on Saturday and the turn out was impressive again.

There were more than 200 starters on Saturday, and although there were several changes throughout the overall placings, Week 1 winners successfully retained their positions.

The two-mile loop started beside John Gray High School on Walkers Road, heading toward South Church Street and ending on Denham Thompson Way.

Dominic Corbin won again, lowering his previous week’s time by 11 seconds to 10 minutes, five seconds, while Laura Knox-Clingerman again led the women, clocking 12:39.

Jason Saunders retained his runner-up spot with a 10:42 timing, and Chadwick Webster moved up a notch in 11:02. Neal Ainscow was a step behind at 11:03, with Hayden Isbister (11:08) relegated to fifth after placing third the previous week.

Julie-Anne Pearson dropped out before the halfway point due to a nagging injury, giving Joanna Mansi a wide open shot at second place with her 12:45 effort.

Julia Storrer’s 12:54 was good for third, with Leslie-Ann Daley (13:11) and Tiffany Cole (13:22) rounding out the top five.

Corbin, 23, won all three races last year and looks set to do it again this weekend.

He desperately wants to finish inside 10 minutes. But if the weather is blazing hot and there is no one to push him, Corbin said he is not sure he will be able to do it.

Most of the fastest runners are in training for the Cayman Triathlon on Nov. 3 and the local marathon and half marathon on Dec. 1.

Everyone is invited to view the action and the awards ceremony that will follow the third and final Fidelity run on Saturday.

As soon as competitors turn in their finish cards, they will receive event T-shirts.
