Literacy day raises $1,000

The Rotary Sunrise Literacy Is For Everyone program, known as LIFE, has raised $1,000 to help further its reading programs.

The monies were earned from the sale of used books and locally produced art and jewelry during International Literacy Day celebrations held Sept. 7 at the George Town Public Library.

Visitors to the library took part in book readings and viewed a live thatch braiding demonstration.

Budding authors even had an opportunity to express an interest in creative writing programs.

Other organizations, including the Cayman Islands Humane Society, Pennies for Polio, the Red Cross, Cayman Islands Information Professionals, the Chess Club and Baraud Recruitment, as well as Sunrise and Central Rotary Clubs contributed to the literacy day event.
