Reigning Champs lack power in early stages

A number of softball squads are failing to live up to expectations.

Coors Light Chuggers, PwC B and the Fluff and Fold Home Gas Misfits were all coed softball champions earlier this year. Heading into week eight of the 12-week 2013 Fall Adult Coed Softball League, put on by the Cayman Islands Little League Association, those sides are far from frontrunners.

Alan Markoff and the Coors Light outfit have suffered a disappointing start thus far, sitting fourth in the standings in the five-team A League. The Chuggers were expected to challenge KPMG A, last year’s group champions. So far, Doug Harrell’s troops are in good shape with a second place spot.

PwC B are currently sitting third out of the seven-team B League. Chris Orlandini and company are chasing the Al La Kebab Hitmen and the BritCay Premiums.

Misfits might be the biggest shock thus far, without a win at the bottom of the C League. Hemant Balgobin’s crew have struggled on both sides of the ball, chasing three others in Saxon G-Force, the UBS Aces and Dart.

League matches continue this week at the Field of Dreams facility. An A League clash takes center stage today, as third-placed Rhino Rebar face KPMG A at 8 p.m. on field three.
