With hundreds of excellent restaurants on one small island, Cayman’s reputation as a culinary destination is well deserved. But how often do those of us who live here take full advantage of the diversity and quality of cuisine that is on our doorstep?
Next month, there is every reason to throw caution to the wind and stray from your usual haunts because Restaurant Month is upon us – and that means exceptional value lunch and dinner menus are being offered across the island.
A Cayman Islands Tourism Association initiative, sponsored by Good Taste, Restaurant Month runs from Oct. 1-31. With 14 participating restaurants, foodies will have plenty of opportunity to sample a range of culinary creations at both lunch and dinner. Each day, restaurants will be offering a three-course prix fixe menu for lunch or dinner, at unbeatable prices. In fact, there are enough options that one can enjoy a new lunch and dinner menu each day during the month.
Lunch menus are available for $15 or $20 per person, and dinner menus are $29 or $39. With Italian, Caribbean, Asian, Thai, and Japanese cuisine to choose from, taste buds are sure to be tantalized – without breaking the bank.
You could treat yourself to lunch at Grand Old House, for example, for just $20. The menu includes a bacon-wrapped wahoo or baby spinach salad as an appetizer, Atlantic salmon or rib-eye steak for an entree and caramelized coconut bread pudding or red velvet cheese cake for dessert.
But why stop there? You could head out again at dinner time and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Camana Bay when you dine at Ortanique.
Start with the chef’s fresh ceviche, followed by pan-seared diver scallops or a 16-ounce Niman Ranch pork chop, and finish off with a choice of apple strudel or tiramisu. It’s all washed down with a glass of house wine or beer, for just $39.
Set menus are advertised online at www.caymangoodtaste.com/cayman-restaurant-month, enabling diners to check what is being offered and book their table in a few quick clicks.
A number of participating restaurants will be offering special cocktail menus throughout the month in celebration of the craft of cocktail making. Cocktail Week runs from Oct. 24-31, and various establishments will be putting on special events, featuring signature cocktails and special menus paired with different spirits. There are margarita and mojito fests, Great Gatsby-inspired soirees, Hendrick’s high tea and Halloween-themed cocktail events in store.
