Halloween options won’t scare anyone from East End

The 2013 Halloween 10-10-10 Road Relay, 30K Solo Run and 5K Fun Run/Walk are approaching.

They take place on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Reef Resort in East End. There are plenty of options depending on an athlete’s fitness and competition schedules.

They can team up to take part in the 10-10-10 relay, take on the whole 30K alone, or just have a relatively undemanding short run in the 5K.

Last year, the second running of the 30K Solo Run saw local East Ender Chadwick Webster storm ahead from the start and maintain the lead for the entire distance. A creditable second place went to Scott Ruby, with Jens Pankalla in third.

In the women’s race, the winner was Helki Weber, with Beth Florek second and Pam Abbott third.

Fifteen teams participated in the second Halloween 10-10-10 road relay. The Phoenix Athletics Club won again, while the MDR Boys A team were second. KPMG Kids were the first corporate team and the MDR Girls the first all-female team.

The East End 5K loses many of the usual runners to the Halloween 10-10-10 relay, which takes place at the same time.

First places went to Pablo Brito (male) and Deirdre Billes (female).
