Caymanian models strut runway in NY Fashion Week

Local Caymanian models Nadicia Dixon and Coral Tomascik recently hit the catwalk at one the world’s most influential couture events – New York Fashion Week.

International designers Cesar Galindo, Korto Momolu and Indashio cast models from the Cayman Islands for the first time to be part of their runway shows highlighting spring/summer 2014 collections.

Dixon and Tomascik were selected based on their appearances in Cayman Islands Fashion Week, held annually in April.

New York Fashion Week, recently branded Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, took place Sept. 5 to 12 at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

One of four major fashion weeks held around the world, along with Paris, London and Milan, the event draws the who’s who of the fashion world, including top models, powerhouse designers, celebrities and influential fashion editors.

During their time in New York, the models had the opportunity to visit agencies and gain a firsthand look at the industry. A number of local businesses rallied to raise funds and donate services to help the models get ready for the international spotlight and send them to New York.

Founder and CEO of Cayman Islands Fashion Week Cindy Rosan-Jones said the event provided good exposure for the islands, as well as an opportunity to promote Cayman’s fashion week to a wider market.

“These three designers have supported Cayman Islands Fashion Week since its inception, presenting their exquisite collections and raising our profile on the international stage,” she said.

Cayman Islands Fashion Week 2014 is scheduled for April 19 to 27.
