Crabbies crawl for playoff props

Coed softball playoffs will now take center stage.

The 2013 Fall Adult Coed Softball League, put on by the Cayman Islands Little League Association, heads into its postseason this week. The Field of Dreams facility in George Town hosts a triple-header on Monday. Rackam’s Crabbies take on the BritCay Premiums at 6:30 p.m. on field three, Master Batters battle Deloitte at 8 p.m. on field three, and Coors Light Chuggers face A.L. Thompson’s Hammers at 8 p.m. on field four.

Rackam’s, led by Furius Whelan, ended up fourth in the B League at 5-6-1. BritCay, which relied on the likes of Jamaal Anderson, finished fifth at 5-7. Master Batters, behind hockey star Joe Jewitt, was third in the B ranks at 5-5-2 followed by 4-7-1 Deloitte placing sixth. Donnie House and Coors Light were fourth in the A League at 5-6, while the Hammers were last at 5-7.

The rest of the playoffs continue throughout the week. Thursday will offer some intrigue as the top-ranked A and B League teams will be in action at 8 p.m. after a bye. Al La Kebab Hitmen, who won the B League at 8-3-1 behind star pitcher Andy Armstrong, plays on field three with the Tower Marketing Titans, who claimed the top flight crown at 10-1 with talents such as Peter Whittaker, storming field four.

The C League playoffs, which stages its opening games on Tuesday and Wednesday, will use a round-robin format. All four division teams made the postseason and will play against each other once to determine the top two teams, who then battle in a championship game. Benoit Ouellette and the UBS Aces are the top seed at 6-5-1, Saxon G-Force is second at 5-6-1, while Dart has the third seed at 5-7 and Fluff and Fold Home Gas Misfits fourth at 1-9-2.
