Cayman boys star at Santa Clarita

Five Caymanian basketball players earned fresh props in California.

Reuben Barnes, Maynor Brooks, Christopher Collins, Justin Nalty and Phillip Webb led the Santa Clarita Christian School Cardinals to victory in Santa Clarita’s tipoff tournament. The Cardinals won three games against high schools within the region. The competition featured eight teams playing over the course of two days.

In the first game, Santa Clarita beat the Vasquez Mustangs, 67-44, in their first game with Brooks (eight points, six rebounds), Collins (seven rebounds) and Webb (six rebounds) contributing to the win. The second contest was a 70-24 victory over the Delphi Academy Dragons thanks in large part to Collins (six points, eight rebounds), Maynor Brooks (six points, six rebounds) and Webb (seven rebounds).

The Cardinals capped off the competition with a 68-42 win over Trinity Classical Academy. Collins starred with a double-double (10 points, a game-high 14 rebounds) while Webb (nine points) added to the scoring under head coach James Mosely.

After the competition, Santa Clarita went on to beat the Mojave Mustangs, 85-31, on Monday before losing to the Newbury Park Panthers, 57-49. The Cardinals, whose record is now 4-1 on the season, will challenge the Frazier Mountain Falcons on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
