Sunset rise as winter break kicks in

The local women’s football league wrapped up until the new year with slim wins for Sunset and Scholars International.

Top of the table Sunset beat closest rivals Elite Sports Club 1-0 thanks to her fourth strike of the season by Elena Testori. Q’Ia Whittaker got the only goal for Scholars against Future in their win.

Sunset have 11 points after five games, five points ahead of Elite. Future are third with five points and Scholars have four points.

Shanelle Frederick still tops the scoring charts but the Elite striker’s five is only one ahead of Future Sports Club’s Shenel Gall and Testori.

Sunset’s Gisela “GG” Gamba and Shanai Allen of Future have both hit two.

The women’s league takes a break until Feb. 1 now to accommodate the CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 tournament running here from Jan. 9-19.

In the Foster’s First Division, league leaders Roma United went to Cayman Brac on Saturday for a top of the table clash which ended 0-0.

Roma pair Kiegel “Stamma” Atkinson and Steve Wellington have both hit eight goals this term but could not find the net against a resolute Brac defence.

This Saturday’s matches see Future in a 6 p.m. kick-off against East End at Ed Bush, Brac at home to Prospect and Latinos taking on Tigers at the TE McField field, both kicking off at 8 p.m.
