They dashed and one even splashed

Christmas Day excesses gave way to Boxing Day fitness resolutions as hordes turned out for the annual Dashing Thru the Sand run/walk on Thursday.  

The event turned sweet 16 this year for the one-and-a-half-mile course along Seven Mile Beach and the 2013 staging was another classic, with 270 runners, walkers and dogs, plus one intrepid swimmer. 

They started just past Hemingways to reach Surfside Beach Resort. 

The mix of participants included local and visiting dashing first timers and veterans of all ages and abilities. 

Competitive runners seeking performance awards led the way for others content to set a comfortable pace, probably weighed down by the previous day’s indulgences.  

Joggers formed the next group, while those enjoying an amiable amble or a family stroll stretched out in a line following their noses towards a hearty breakfast after crossing the finish line. 

Many who took part donned the latest John Broad event shirt creation. 

As usual, a large number of theme-related items were distributed as random prizes. 

The fun-filled activity was sponsored by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and organized by the Phoenix Athletic Club’s coach Jerry Harper.
