Gaelic day kicks off season

The Gaelic football season starts this weekend with the Corporate CML Mixed 9s Day at the Camana Bay playing field.

The action kicks off on Saturday from 10 a.m. with its main intention being to promote the 2014 LIME LTE Gaelic League and attract new players to the sport for the coming season.

There will be 10 teams competing on the day, including EY, Maples, UBS, PwC, Zolfo Cooper, FFP, CML and BDO.

Organizer David O’Connell said, “Our league starts on Feb. 9 and will run up until June.

“We play every second Sunday and have many social events including Paddy’s Day Bash, quiz nights, annual tours and the finals day finale bash.”

The Gaelic Football Association will also select a team to represent Cayman Islands in the upcoming Gaelic North American Championships. The championships will be held this year in Boston.

“The day usually attracts quite a bit of media attention and we have already had some air time on Cayman 27 about it,” O’Connell said.
