Holiday boost for Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels received a donation of more than $1,200 in December 2013 from the staff of HSBC Bank (Cayman) Ltd.

The money will be used to buy shopping vouchers at supermarkets.

Beulah McField, managing director of Meals On Wheels, acknowledged the efforts made by HSBC staff.

“Their generosity is much appreciated and went a long way in providing much-needed meals for our seniors over the holiday season,” she said.

Meals on Wheels has been in operation for 16 years and faces annual service costs of approximately $200,000.

The donation came as part of HSBC’s “12 Days of Christmas” initiative, which offered staff various opportunities to give back to the local community. All funds donated went to aid Meals on Wheels.

Johnathan Cooper, chief executive officer of HSBC, said, “We are pleased to provide much- needed financial support to such an important charitable organization.

“HSBC is dedicated to the communities in which it operates, and being able to provide assistance to Meals on Wheels, which saw many seniors within the Cayman community receiving daily meals at an important time of year, was of paramount importance to the bank and its employees.”
