Cayman’s young sluggers can now storm the diamond.
The Cayman Islands Little League Association will be putting on games throughout the week for its 25th season. As usual, the 2014 campaign will see contests catering to kids ages 5-16 at no charge at the Field of Dreams facility in George Town.
There are six different segments in action. T-Ball, for ages 5-6, offers games on Saturdays at 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. with practices on Fridays from 5-6:30 p.m. The Pony division, ages 7-8, sees games on Saturdays from 10-11:30 a.m. with practices on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 5-6:30 p.m. Single A, ages 9-10, offers Friday matches from 6:30-8:30 p.m. with practices on Mondays or Wednesdays at 5-6:30 p.m.

The 2014 season runs from January until early June. Little League in Cayman started in 1989 and games were first played on the Field of Dreams facility in 1998. Since then, about 400 children and more than 500 adults play weekly at the Field of Dreams during a given season.
In addition to Little League games, the association is also putting on its 2014 Winter Adult Coed Softball League from Feb. 3. The captains’ meeting is on Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Field of Dreams clubhouse.
