Netball in the junior ranks is set to reach a crescendo.
The Inter-Primary school netball competition is staging its 2013-2014 finals this Friday, Jan. 31, at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts. Some 10 schools will be in action in the afternoon for a variety of group titles. The Cayman Islands Netball Association helps organize matches with local teachers, like Tricia Skyers-Palacio and Ronnie Roach, involved in the event.
In the B division, North Side face East End for third place at 1 p.m. while George Town battle Prospect in the championship game. The consolation cup final pits John A Cumber against St. Ignatius at 1:30 p.m. The championship cup features Savannah challenging Red Bay for third place at 1 p.m. with George Town and Prospect squaring off for first place at 1:30 p.m.
The primary school competition has been going on for years. Aside from the aforementioned institutions, the likes of Triple C, Truth for Youth, Cayman Academy and Cayman Prep have taken part in the past. A number of budding athletes, like Joshua O’Garro, have been exposed to the sport. Usually, contests are five-minute halves with a minute for halftime. The playoffs use a round-robin format.
