New occupational therapist on island

A new occupational therapist, Dr. Mona Kazemi, has joined the team at KidsAbility at the Cayman Chiropractic and Medical center.

Dr. Kazemi graduated in 2012 from the University of Southern California with a doctorate in occupational therapy. The University of Southern California has been nominated as the number one occupational therapy school in the United States consecutively for 10 years and is the birthplace of sensory integration.

In the initial years of her career, Dr. Kazemi immersed herself in a variety of healthcare settings and her wide skill set now allows her to treat clients and their caregivers through a holistic lens.

Among her work experience has been DIR/floortime behavioral therapy for children aged 2 and over; occupational therapy services for children with disabilities in Africa; post-acute traumatic brain injury physical rehabilitation; home healthcare for adolescents, adults and the elderly; in-patient physical rehabilitation and long-term care for the elderly; and life skills training and redesign for survivors of domestic violence, substance abuse and mental illness.

She has also developed her skills through further training and workshops that included cultural competency, fall prevention, dysphagia, sensory oral sequential feeding approach, and pediatric feeding: an overview of development and treatment strategies.
