Free health screenings for World Kidney Day

To mark World Kidney Day on Thursday, March 13, the public is invited to tour the new dialysis unit in the Cayman Islands Hospital and undergo free health checks.

“It is our hope that as we join the rest of the world to celebrate this day that those people who are at high risk of [chronic kidney disease] will come out to be screened … in the George Town hospital atrium,” said Dr. Nelson Iheonunekwu, consultant internist and nephrologist at the hospital.

The dialysis unit will be open to tours from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 2 to 4 p.m. During the tours of the unit, information on how to prevent kidney disease will be available.

The free health screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol, will be held in the hospital atrium from 9 a.m. to noon.
