Legislative Assembly to meet on Cayman Brac

The Cayman Islands Legislative Assembly will hold its first meeting on Cayman Brac in more than a decade next month.

The meeting, scheduled to begin on April 9, is expected to be held at the Aston Rutty Centre. The government’s weekly Cabinet meeting will also be held in Cayman Brac on April 8.

The last LA meeting in Cayman Brac was held in March 2003.

Deputy Premier Moses Kirkconnell said Cabinet typically meets in the Brac about once a year, but assembly meetings there are rare.

“No, it doesn’t happen a lot, but it’s happened before and it happened when Ms. Juliana [O’Connor-Connolly] was Speaker of the House,” Mr. Kirkconnell said. “I think it’s a very good thing.”

Two of the current Progressives-led government’s most influential members, Mr. Kirkconnell as Deputy Premier, and Ms. O’Connor-Connolly as Speaker, are both elected members from Cayman Brac.
