Motorcycle group’s food drive a roaring success

A Sunday drive collected two tons of food and $2,100 for Meals on Wheels, and donations are still rolling in.

The Cayman Islands Motorcycle Riders Association hosted its third annual Wheels 4 Meals drive from the Cayman Turtle Farm to North Side Public Beach with the aim of collecting one ton of nonperishable food items to donate to the meals program.

“The event was just awesome,” said association president Keith Keller, adding that 60 participants, including 45 motorcycle riders, turned out.

“We set a goal and it looks like we are going to double that,” he said.

Riders donated a can of food to take part in the event, and food donations were also collected from drop-off bins at LIME locations, Kirk Supermarket and Cost-U-Less.

Food donations are still being collected and will be taken to Meals on Wheels on Wednesday.

Members of the Cayman Island’s Motorcycle Rider’s Association met on Sunday to ride and raise funds for Meals on Wheels.
