Ladies net fresh props

Local netball has been highlighting its past and present stars.

The Cayman Islands Netball Association saw the sport incorporated into two events for Honoring Women’s Month. The first was a ceremony that honored Governor Helen Kilpatrick as a patron of Cayman netball and the second was the Oldies Netball Social at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts last Saturday.

The latter spectacle attracted roughly 27 players age 45 or older, including Lavern Ebanks, Jan Pereira and Janet Sairsingh. A number of women currently in the sport, such as Lyneth Monteith and Pauline Bodden, were present along with those who have backgrounds in other disciplines, like Molly-Ann Moore and Carneth Thomas.

From there, the association turned its attention to the knockout round for the Appleby Netball League. The finals are slated for April 5 at Truman Bodden as Blue Diamonds battle Jacques Scott Social for the Division Three crown while Cayman National Bank All Stars B face Rising Stars B for the Plate division crown at 6:45 p.m. Conyers All Stars challenge Roma for the national championship.

Most teams feature some of netball’s best current players such as Charlotte Shepheard of Jacques Scott, Brittany Mobley of All Stars B and Katherine Maw of All Stars A. Squad-wise, the focus is on All Stars netball club as they aim to secure consecutive titles in two divisions.
