Pearl Morgan is only 15, yet the track athlete has been one of the most accomplished competitors of all the Under-18 girls at recent meets.
That was evident when Morgan was the U-18 overall champ and age-division winner at the recent Inter-Secondary Schools championships at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
Last weekend, her excellent form continued at the CUC Championships when she attempted the heptathlon for the first time and only missed the 3,800 points qualifying mark for CARIFTA by a couple of hundred points.
So impressed was Cuban throwing coach Roberto Diaz with Morgan’s first-ever javelin throws that he told coach Tyrone Yen he would like her to train seriously.
Apart from being a brilliant sprinter – which is her first love – Morgan’s high jumping is quite respectable too, her best leap being 1.58 meters. All in all, she has plenty of options.
