Ken Chand run on again

An insurance executive who died suddenly six years ago is remembered in an annual road run in his honor next month.

The Discovery Day 5k Ken Chand Walk/Run takes place on Discovery Day, Monday, May 19, from 7 a.m. at The Crescent, Camana Bay.

Last year, the sixth annual staging of the race was another great success. All proceeds from that event went towards purchasing AED machines for government schools.

The late Kenneth Chand was the branch manager of Motor and General Insurance Company for more than 20 years in the Cayman Islands.

Chand was widely respected for his expertise in the motor vehicle insurance industry. In February 2008, he died of a heart attack. The Cayman Islands Insurance Association dedicated a 5k walk/run in his memory two months later and since 2010, the Cayman Heart Fund has partnered with the Cayman Islands Athletic Association on the Discovery Day 5K Walk/Run to raise awareness of heart disease.

Entry is $10 and $5 for children up to age 16, which includes T-shirt, on-course support, post-race snacks and prizes.
