Teed up to be champs

The Cayman Islands national golf championships are on at the North Sound Golf Club this weekend.

Play takes place in morning and afternoon sessions on Saturday and in the afternoon on Sunday with the leading players going out last.

Last year’s winners were Joel Dodson (men’s), Samantha Widmer (women’s), George Christie (senior), Andy Newton (super senior), James Walton (men’s handicap) and Emma Woodhouse (women’s handicap).

The championship also forms the final part of qualifying for the national team to represent Cayman in Puerto Rico in August.

Woodhouse said, “Well done to all the Cayman Island golfers who went to Dominican Republic last week for the Caribbean Classic at the Casa de Campo resort.”

In the men’s second flight, Dave Allott won and Mick Whitworth was joint second. In the third flight, winner and runner-up were also from Cayman, Diane Brazelton and Carmel Harms respectively.
