Faulty starter motor grounds CAL jet

Passengers on board a Monday evening Cayman Airways flight that was about to depart from Owen Roberts International Airport were forced to switch planes after the pilot announced engine trouble.

The Miami-bound plane, which was due to take off at 5:50 p.m., had pushed back from the gate when passengers were told of the problem.

“On Monday, June 9, 2014, Cayman Airways’ Miami flight KX106 was delayed approximately one hour after a change of aircraft,” a representative from the airline said. “The aircraft originally scheduled to operate the flight was taken out of service to replace a faulty starter motor, the aircraft has since returned to service.”
She added, “This occurred on the ground prior to taxi as the aircraft pushed back from the gate. Passengers were transferred to another aircraft, which departed at 7:20pm. This delay of KX106, in turn, caused the return flight KX107 to also be delayed approximately one hour.”
