Women’s softball is close to naming a new champion.
The Cayman Islands Softball Association is currently in the finals for the women’s division of the 2014 fast-pitch league. Cayman National Bank Team Xtreme beat Cayman Auto Diagnostic Clinic Stingers in game one of their best-of-three series on Tuesday, with game two at the Field of Dreams on July 5 from roughly 7 p.m.
Team Xtreme, behind Kacie Ramos and Lacee Barnes, were first place during the regular season, ahead of the Caledonian Wildcats and CADC Stingers, who feature the likes of Belquis Bodden and Lori Moncrieffe. Stingers, the reigning two-time champions, would win their one-game playoff with the Wildcats to advance to the finals. A win for CNB would be sweet revenge as CADC downed the bankers in last year’s finals.
Over on the men’s side, the regular season is about a third of the way with Mark Chow and the Redimix Patriots looking to establish a fourth consecutive title run. Byron Bravo and the Jose’s Escape Pirates along with Donald Watler’s Latinos are aiming to knock off the reigning champs. Games take place every Sunday at the Field of Dreams. On June 29, field three sees Latinos facing Pirates at 2:30 p.m. before Latinos tackle Pirates at 4:30 p.m.
