North Sound Golf Club’s inaugural Social Corporate League has been running for several weeks and Appleby tops the leader board by a narrow margin.
Nearly 70 players from first timers to low handicappers have completed 144 rounds in the series which pits a two-ball from each participating company against each other in nine holes of alternate shot match play.
Rounds are scheduled after close of business on Mondays or Tuesdays.
While teams are led by golf veterans including Brian Ross and Fiona Crellin of Appleby, Joel Dodson of KMPG and Isabel Lawson and Cameron Graham of Dart/DECCO, the league has initiated some new enthusiasts.
First time player Emily Sleep stepped up to the tee box with aplomb, holding her own with partner John Middleton in an admirable 2 and 1 loss against some course regulars.
“This is a fun league, with team-building and socializing enlivening the friendly competition,” said Jeff Sauvage, general manager of the North Sound Golf Club.
“After the rounds the four-balls inevitably have the first beer with each other rather than huddling with their co-workers – it’s gratifying to see the game help develop these new friendships and potential professional relationships.”
The North Sound’s corporate league is sponsored by Ulysse Nardin, the Swiss watch with a 170-year history in seafaring and precision timepiece design.
A hole-in-one during the final match on Aug. 8 may earn the lucky player a Ulysse Nardin Perpetual Calendar 322-10 valued at $50,000. Post-match rounds have been sponsored by Michelob Ultra, and the winning corporate team will enjoy a celebratory Sunday brunch courtesy of Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink.
“Given the success of this initial season, we definitely plan to repeat the league next summer,” said Sauvage.
In addition to the social corporate league, the North Sound Golf Club offers corporate and individual memberships as well as resident rates.
