Second hash bust at airport

For the second time this year, a traveler has been arrested at Owen Roberts International Airport for possession of hashish – resin from the cannabis plant.

According to Customs officials, a Caymanian man was arrested last week after arriving on a flight from Jamaica.

Customs officers said the man was returning home from a short vacation. During a search at the airport, officers discovered the substance that was later tested and determined to be hashish.

“Following the first arrest for hashish in May, this second arrest suggests that we could be seeing an increase or new trend through the Owen Roberts International Airport,” said Deputy Customs Collector Marlon Bodden.

He added, “We have a zero tolerance approach to any illegal drugs. We will maintain our concentrated vigilance and wish to remind the public that offences of this nature can result in imprisonment.”
