Widmer putts in great effort

Cayman’s top golfers recently wrapped up play in Puerto Rico. 

The Cayman Islands competed at the 58th Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships and came away with top-15 finishes. The highlight was Samantha Widmer finishing tied for 12th out of 20 players in the women’s segment. Over the course of the four-round tournament, Widmer notched a score of 53-over par, 341. 

Cayman’s other two female golfers finished in the top 20, as Emily Ribbins was 17th with a score of 54-over par, 363. Nitti Howe was 18th at 73-over par, 390. 

On the men’s side, Bryan Ross was 15th on the leader board – out of roughly 45 players – with a score of 27-over par, 315. Michael Wight finished 18th overall at 30-over par, 318, Brandon Smith was tied for 29th at 48-over par, 336, Payten Wight ended up 31st at 49-over par, 337, and Jason Lovelock finished 39th at 74-over par, 362. 

In the Mid-Amateur class, the team of Philip Wight and Richard Hastings took eighth place with a score of 22-over par, 310. Mick Whitworth and Tracy Moore finished sixth in the seniors division at 25-over par, 313 while Andy Newton and Bradon Howe took eighth in the super seniors division at 23-over par, 311.
