Accountants calculate their strides for Red Cross aid

Local financial services are supporting the Cayman Islands Red Cross through sports.

Running enthusiasts will have another chance to participate in the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants 5K Fun Run and Walk in support of the Cayman Islands Red Cross on Aug. 30. Held at the North Sound Golf Club, the morning route follows a scenic view of Safehaven and the 18-hole golf course, both starting and finishing at the clubhouse.

Last year’s inaugural race included over 250 participants, raising $5,000 for the Red Cross – invaluable funds as the non-profit organization readies for hurricane preparedness each year.

The second annual event is proving to be popular with already 13 corporate sponsors on board, including: BDO, Campbells, Chris Johnson and Associates, Deloitte, EisnerAmper LLP, Ernst and Young, KPMG, PKF Cayman, PwC Cayman, RSM Cayman, Silver Wheaton, Swiss and Global, and Trident Trust.

Chair of CISPA’s Training and Social Committee Ben Leung said the competition will boost local efforts.

“This year we have seen an outstanding show of support from sponsors and we want to thank them for their generous contributions and for demonstrating their commitment to supporting the Cayman Islands during this most vulnerable time of year,” Leung said.

Registration is now open on the Cayman Active website and includes a participant waiver to be dropped off along with payment to the CISPA office on or before the registration deadline of Aug. 29. Cost to enter is $20 for CISPA members and $25 for non-members. The entry fee includes a complimentary breakfast and the chance to win from a selection of draw prizes.
