Police review robbery, motorcycle crash

Police say the armed robbery of a liquor store in West Bay on Friday may be linked to a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred half an hour later.

According to a statement released by police, officers are investigating a “possible link” between the holdup and the crash. Joe-Ena’s Liquor Store on West Church Street was robbed around 9:50 p.m. by a man armed with a gun. Police were looking for a second suspect who remained outside, possibly as a lookout, during the robbery.

About 30 minutes later, a 28-year-old motorcyclist was involved in an accident on Jefferson Road in West Bay and taken to Cayman Islands Hospital. Police reported Monday that he had died.

Police are appealing for witnesses to both incidents to contact the West Bay Police Station at 949-3999, the RCIPS tip-line on 949-7777, or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS).
