The Cayman Islands Labour and Pensions Office said it misidentified former health minister Mark Scotland as one of the owners of a local paving company that was in court this week over nonpayment of employee wages.
The office issued a notice on its website Monday “naming and shaming” several businesses and their owners who were before the courts on various alleged violations. One of the companies listed was ARCP Ltd., a local paving company.
“Please note that an error was discovered [Tuesday] night on the list, which was caused by outdated business registration data being used,” Labor and Pensions Director Mario Ebanks wrote in an email sent Wednesday. “Mr. Mark Scotland is not currently a principal of Advanced Road Construction and Paving. The current principals are: Peter Young, Samuel Young, and Justin Woods.
“My apologies for any inconvenience caused and I have also apologized to Mr. Scotland.”
Contacted for comment prior to the publication of any story on the nonpayment of wages matter, Mr. Scotland confirmed to the Cayman Compass that he was no longer an owner or director of ARCP, having demitted that role following his election to public office in 2009.
Mr. Scotland indicated the misidentification of himself as a principal of ARCP had been corrected in other media.
