Brac 5K run set

Cayman Brac is organizing its inaugural 5K run/walk next week as part of an effort to promote a healthier lifestyle for its 1,500-plus residents.

The 5K Walk/Run for Better Health starts at 6:30 a.m. at the sports complex on Bluff Main Road on Nov. 8. The loop run finishes at the same place. There will be refreshments, prizes, trophies, gifts and medals.

Jerry Holness, sports director on Cayman Brac, said the event is “to try and boost sports tourism on the Sister Islands.”

He added, “It is also to develop and promote middle- and long-distance running and walking as an interesting and viable sport on the Brac, based on the natural terrain and climatic condition.”

He said the intention is to have an annual event for the Sister Islands. Holness expects between 60 and 75 participants and said proceeds will go directly to the Sports Association of The Sister Islands.
