The Breeze Fun Run was another success, although with so many distractions and Halloween the night before, it was no wonder numbers were slightly down compared to previous years.
Nevertheless, around 120 came out on Saturday in support of the 5K from Smith’s Cove, as 39 runners and 81 walkers take part in the eighth annual staging.
Bruce Mangakam was first in 20 minutes 12 seconds; Campbell Tyson (24:10) was second male; and Andrew Tyson third male (25:45).
Joanna Mansi (20:14) was the fastest woman, only two seconds behind Mangakam. Judy Rivers (22:59) was second female, and Danielle Magalhaes (27:35) was third. In the walkers category, Stanford Bennett was the first male and Tara Bush was the first female. The increase in distance from 2 miles was a definite plus, and the kids race was a nice addition.
As customary, part of the proceeds went to the National Council of Voluntary Organisations, and the second beneficiary this year was John Gray High School’s Helping Hands Program.
Each charity received $1,100. Accepting the donation for the NCVO was Noel Kelly and for the JGHS, Deputy Principal Matthew Holmes.
